What I Would Do Differently If I Was Starting Over Online — Honest Talk
I’m going to say something out loud today that I don’t always say, and I want you to hear it because I know I’m not the only one.
I have been all over the place.
Not as a criticism of myself everything I’ve ever tried has taught me something, and I don’t regret any of it. But if I’m being completely honest? I tried to do too much at one time. Speaking, coaching, publishing, digital products, affiliate marketing, Pinterest, blogging — most of the brands, most of the income streams, most of the directions, all at once.
And I know I’m not alone in this, because I see women doing it every single day.
The Trap Nobody Warns You About
When you’re trying to build something online and money is the goal, and you see all of these different ways to make it — you want to do them all right now at the same time. It feels like focus. It feels like hustle. It feels like you’re covering all your bases.
It isn’t. It’s actually a trap.
Trying to income stack before you even have one solid stream. Jumping from idea to idea because everything online looks like an opportunity. Building five things at once and wondering why none of them are really taking off. That was me. That cost me real time years of slower progress than I needed to have.
And that’s exactly why I’m writing this blog — because I want to save you that time, that money, and that energy. You don’t have to learn this the hard way if someone who already did tells you the truth.
What I Would Do First If I Was Starting Over
If I was starting completely from scratch today, the very first thing I would do is pick one income stream and learn it like my life depends on it.
Just one.
Not two. Not three. One — all the way in.
And the one I would choose without any hesitation? Affiliate marketing.
Here’s why. With affiliate marketing, you don’t need to create a product. You don’t need to handle customer service. You don’t need a following to start. You find something you genuinely believe in, you share it consistently, and when someone buys through your link — you get paid. That is the whole model.
When I think about 2014 Sharlrita, just getting started, trying to build something from nothing, affiliate marketing would have been the fastest and the cleanest path. I wouldn’t have had to build anything from scratch. I just needed to find the right thing to believe in and share it. One stream. One direction. All the way in.
A lot of people sleep on affiliate marketing because we’re naturally creators and we want to build things. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you are just getting started and you want to make money online, affiliate marketing is where I wish I had started and it’s where I’m intentionally focusing my energy right now.
Clarity Is the Thing Nobody Talks About
Here’s the other piece that goes hand in hand with everything I just said, and it’s the thing that most online business content skips right over: clarity.
Everybody wants to talk about strategy. Funnels. Content calendars. But if you don’t know what you’re building, who you’re building for, and which income stream is going to get you there all of that strategy is just noise.
When I finally got clear really clear everything shifted. My content got sharper. I got monetized. My energy stopped being split in ten different directions. I started making real progress instead of just being busy.
And that’s the thing: being busy is not the same as building. I had to learn that all the way so that you don’t have to.
What Real Focus Actually Looks Like
I want to paint a picture for you, because I think a lot of women hear “pick one thing” and nod their heads and then go right back to doing the five things within about fifteen minutes.
Real focus looks like every single piece of content you create pointing back to that one thing. Every video. Every post. Every email. Your whole online presence moving in one direction.
I’m writing directly to the woman who has 17 tabs open right now. Who has three and a half unfinished courses on her computer. Who has started and stopped so many things she can’t even remember what she was originally building. I see you. I was you. And I want you to know that it is not too late to simplify.
You don’t have to burn everything down and start from zero. You just need to pick one thing that makes the most sense right now and put everything else on pause. Not forever just right now, until that one thing actually works. Until you have the momentum. The results. The proof of concept. And then, only then, you start adding the next layer.
I talk about income stacking all the time and I believe in it deeply but you have to have something solid to stack on top of. You need a foundation. And you cannot build a foundation when you are spread thin across ten different things.
One thing. Go deep. Let it work. That is the move.
What I’m Focused On Right Now
