I’ve been online since 2014.
And I’ve done social media every way you can do it.
Posting every day.
Being everywhere.
Chasing attention.
It started to feel like I was auditioning for attention.
And at this stage of my life?
I don’t like performing.
I love being who I am.
I love posting and getting paid.
That’s the simplest way I can say it.
Now, if you’re brand new online, this might sound different to you. Maybe you’re still trying to figure out how to get paid at all.
I’ve done digital products.
UGC.
Brand deals.
Platform monetization.
And yes I’m monetized on YouTube.
But let’s be honest.
Even platform monetization requires performance.
The Performance Side of Social Media
To get paid directly from YouTube ads, I had to:
-
Reach 500+ subscribers
-
Hit 4,000 watch hours
-
Consistently publish content people actually watch
That’s performance.
And there’s nothing wrong with that.
But I don’t believe platform monetization should be your only focus.
Before YouTube ever paid me from ads, I was already making money selling my expertise publishing, digital products, consulting.
The platform money is extra.
Not the foundation.
Why I Love SEO Platforms
Let’s talk about SEO.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
That means people are already searching for answers.
Social media is attention-based.
SEO is intent-based.
On social media, you interrupt.
With SEO, you answer.
That’s the difference.
SEO content compounds over time.
You write once.
You publish once.
And time works for you.
That’s why I love:
-
Blogs
-
YouTube
-
Books
-
Pinterest
-
Medium
-
Podcasts
These are searchable platforms.
If someone types into Google:
“How to write a book”
What shows up?
-
Blog posts
-
YouTube videos
-
Sponsored ads
-
Pinterest links
-
AI summaries
That’s search behavior.
That’s long-term visibility.
Why SEO Fits a Soft Life Business
SEO supports a soft life business because:
-
It doesn’t require daily posting
-
It doesn’t punish you for resting
-
It builds slowly but steadily
-
It compounds
It’s slower than viral social media.
But it’s sustainable.
And sustainability matters to me.
How I Multiply One Piece of Content
Here’s my real strategy.
Let’s say I record one YouTube video.
That one video becomes:
-
A blog post on my WordPress website
-
A Medium article
-
A podcast episode
-
A Substack post
-
Pinterest pins
-
Short clips for social media
-
Eventually, maybe even a short book
Nothing goes to waste.
That’s how you compound.
It may look like a lot but it’s really just one core idea spread across multiple platforms.
My SEO Ecosystem
Here’s how mine works:
YouTube
My main platform. I record here first.
Blog (WordPress always Team WordPress)
Video becomes a blog post.
Medium
Short version of the blog.
Podcast
Audio version, hosted on Substack.
Traffic source that sends people back to everything else.
Pinterest is a search engine.
People go there to look for ideas.
So I use Pinterest to send traffic to:
-
My blog
-
My YouTube
-
My podcast
-
My books
That’s strategic repurposing.
Am I Anti-Social Media?
No.
I just use it differently now.
Proof of life. Updates. Community. I’ve been there for years.
Stories. Repurposed reels. Light presence.
TikTok
Repurposed content. If it hits, it hits.
I don’t build my foundation there.
I build my foundation on search.
Because search lasts.
Why SEO Aligns With My Identity
I’m a writer.
I’m a document-the-journey type of person.
I’m building quiet income.
SEO supports that identity.
It allows me to:
-
Show up without performing
-
Build without pressure
-
Let content work long after it’s published
And that matters.
The Amazon Bonus
If you publish books, SEO works there too.
When readers follow you on Amazon:
Every time you publish a book, they get notified.
You don’t control the customer data.
But you can use the real estate inside your book:
-
Add links
-
Invite readers to your email list
-
Promote other books
That’s strategic.
If you’re tired of performing…
If you don’t want to post every day…
If you want your work to compound quietly…
Start looking at SEO platforms.
Not for fast wins.
But for long-term stability.
