Welcome back CEO to the CEO Author Podcast! I love talking about the different types of publishing. I love that we have options but you have to decide which option is best for you and your business/brand!
1. Traditional Publishing:
Traditional publishing is just like the music industry. You have to submit your manuscript to the publisher and sometimes you may need an agent. Not just any agent but a literary agent.
The traditional publisher will decide if they want to publish your book. This is a very lengthy process but it can be so worth it. Some huge advantage with traditional publishing is ACCESS.
You will have access to professional editing, cover design, and marketing support, as well as the potential for wider distribution and bookstore placement. You have a high chance of hitting the New York Times best-seller list however you still have to market your book as the author. The best part about being traditionally published is your upfront payment. You will receive royalties but a very small amount.
Traditional publishing is a highly competitive nature of industry, with longer timelines for publication, and the loss of some creative control.

2. Self-Publishing:
Self Publishing is what it is. Everything is on YOU as the author. You as the author take on the responsibility of publishing and marketing your own books.
Some advantages of self-publishing is, having complete creative control over the content, cover design, and release schedule. You have the potential for higher royalty rates and faster time-to-market with self-publishing.
There is so much flexibility of self-publishing in terms of format options (ebooks, print-on-demand, audiobooks) and the ability to experiment with pricing strategies.
There are a few challenges in self-publishing, including the need to handle editing, cover design, formatting, and marketing independently or by hiring professionals.
It is s important to build an author platform, manage distribution, and navigate the self-publishing landscape effectively. Self-publishing is A LOT more work BUT you have all of the control and if you’re a controlling person by nature self-publishing is the way to go for you!
3. Hybrid Publishing: BWE Publishing and Consulting is a hybrid publisher
We have combined elements of traditional and self-publishing, offering some of the benefits of both approaches.
There are some other options as well such as small independent presses or niche publishers, and the potential benefits they may offer in terms of personalized attention and targeted marketing. As a hybrid publisher, you must pay for a package to publish with us. We’re a professional company with in-house editors, book cover designers, marketers etc. Your package covers those options to work with us. Overall publishing is a business and no matter which option you choose it takes money to publish even if you don’t have to pay anything upfront there is still a cost.
Consider which option works best for YOU and your goals in your brand or business.
